Did you know that Berberine (Hydrastis canadensis) is found in medicinal plants including sourberry (Berberis vulgaris) and Chinese goldenrod (Coptis chinensis). In Asia, Berberine has been used for decades for its beneficial effect on the gut microbiome, gastrointestinal infections caused, for example, by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) bacteria and diarrhoea. Much scientific research has been done on berberine over the past decades. These have revealed health-promoting properties. For example, it helps maintain normal cholesterol levels, a healthy immune system and is good for the urinary tract and liver. Berberine has good anti-inflammatory properties and also works well with fungi. Research has also shown that the substance has good results in people with type II diabetes. However, here it is important to coordinate supplementation with your doctor, blood sugar levels should be checked regularly. Note that health claims are pending European authorisation. Depending on the condition, a use of 500 mg 1 to 3 times daily is needed.
