Hyaluronic acid (also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate) is a glycosaminoglycan that occurs naturally in our connective tissue, joints, eyes, skin and nervous tissue. Glycosaminoglycan is one of the body's own glucose building blocks. These building blocks are needed to keep the skin supple and elastic. This substance, which is part of the body, can bind very large amounts of water.
