Magnesium is at the basis of more than 300 biochemical processes in our body. Deficiencies in magnesium balance can therefore manifest themselves in countless ways. That is why we decided to combine all organic forms of magnesium that we offer separately into one supplement. In this way we combine the specific applications of the various forms, making Magnesium Complex a supplement with a wide range of uses.

Magnesium bisglycinate is a compound between magnesium and two (bis) molecules of the amino acid glycine. Magnesium taurate is a combination of the amino acid substance l-taurine and magnesium. The bonds to l-taurine and glycine make it easier for the magnesium to cross the blood-brain barrier. Subsequently, magnesium taurine and bisglycinate are better absorbed into brain tissue than other forms of magnesium. These combinations are therefore extremely suitable for improving mood, concentration and mental energy.

Magnesium malate is a compound of magnesium and malic acid; magnesium citrate is in turn bound to citric acid. Both acids are part of the so-called citric acid cycle. This biochemical system is responsible for most of the energy our body produces in the cells. Furthermore, research shows that our muscle tissue absorbs magnesium malate and citrate relatively well compared to other magnesium compounds. Therefore, these are excellent forms in case of fatigue and impaired muscle function!

Magnesium malate, taurate, bisglycinate and citrate are organically bound forms of magnesium. Inorganic forms of magnesium such as magnesium chloride, magnesium oxide and magnesium sulphate are less bioavailable and therefore less well absorbed. For example, magnesium sulphate only has a bioavailability of 4%. This means that a dose of 200 mg of magnesium sulphate is only effective for a mere 8 mg.

Our daily diet generally contains inorganically bound magnesium. These are the forms that occur in the soil and are absorbed by the plants we eat every day. Examples are magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate. So our bodies only absorb a small part of the magnesium we get from regular food.

The best known forms are magnesium chelates, such as magnesium taurate, magnesium malate and magnesium bisglycinate. The structure of an amino acid chelate is so strong that our gastric juice is unable to split the form. This is because the amino acids in the chelate form act as a protective layer for the magnesium. Magnesium bisglycinate therefore reaches our intestines as a complete element, where our bodies subsequently absorb the valuable mineral. Furthermore, the amino acid chelated nature of magnesium reduces gastrointestinal discomfort, compared to unchelated magnesium forms.

Vitamin B6 improves the absorption of magnesium. The vitamin also has many scientifically proven health-promoting effects on the body. For example, B6 is good for the production of red blood cells, protein production and cysteine production. Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (the biologically active, co-enzymatic form of vitamin B6) has better bioavailability and is safer than pyridoxine. We only use the form P-5-P in our products.

Dosage
Take 1 to 3 tablets daily, unless otherwise advised. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

This is a larger than average tablet. If you have trouble swallowing larger tablets then one of our other magnesium supplements may be a better choice.
